The Ultimate HEALTHY & VEGAN FRIENDLY Chocolate Doughnuts

It's true. You can have your favourite dunking dessert and not fret that you've just consumed 1/2 of your daily intake in one bite! 

These chocolate doughnuts are so yummy and great news; are approx 180 kcal, which is a fraction of the count of your branded frosting favourites. I guarantee you that you will be hooked if not surprised by how good they taste; the best thing is that they are relatively healthier than other versions

5 REASONS WHY THESE DOUGHNUTS ARE HEALTHIER (...and why therefore you MUST try them!):

1. Baking your doughnuts for a start, goes a heck of a long way towards creating a healthier treat- less fat/oil immediately.
2. Chickpeas- yep that's right1 These babies contain chickpeas, which are a natural fibre source aiding better digestive health. In addition, enough of them can count towards your 1 a day. Bonus
3. Switching out white flour for wholewheat flour adds that extra fibre goodness and reduction in processed and refined sugars.
4 . Almond milk is a great substitute for fattier and lactose-heavy cows milk; it's a source of protein and rich in vitamins such as calcium and iron.
5. Apple cider vinegar has been linked with a range of benefits, from controlling blood sugar levels, to improving digestion to burning fat and aiding weight loss.

And if you're not already amazed by the goodness and attributes of these doughnuts, one more benefit is that they are suitable for vegans! (As long as you use vegan chocolate and non animal milk like almond or soy) so everyone no matter what your diet restrictions or life choices are, can enjoy them.

Alright, now that we've established that these treats are perhaps perfect in every single way, let's get on to making them. And you'd be glad to know. these chocolate doughnuts are super easy to whip up:


1 cup chickpeas
1/2 non animal milk (soy or almond)
3/4 tsp baking powder
1/4 tsp baking soda
2 tbsp vanilla extract
1 tsp apple cider vinegar
1/2 tsp salt
1/2 cup sugar ( you could use Stevia, if you're watching your sugar intake)
3/4 cup choocolate chips (vegan, if you DESIRE)
1 cup wholewheat flour

1/2 vegan chocolate chips
1 tbsp non animal milk
1/2 tbsp vanilla
1/4 cup of (organic) icing sugar


Preheat oven to 350F

Place chickpeas, vanilla, milk, sugar, salt, baking soda, baking powder, and apple cider vinegar in a blender and blend until smooth

Melt chocolate chips in a glass bowl in a microwave. Then combine the chickpea mix with the melted chocolate and add the cup of flour. Stir until thick.

Grease a doughnut pan ( or muffin tin if you don't have one) with cooking spray or coconut oil

 Now pour the batter into the pan, spreading out evenly with a spoon. Bake for 8-10 minutes. Cool in the pan for 5 minutes and then remove and place on a cooling rack/surface

To make the frosting: Melt 1/2 cup of chocolate chips in a bowl, Stir in vanilla. milk of choice and powdered sugar, until the frosting is thick and well combined.

Spread a small spoonful onto each doughnuts ( go overboard if you want) and decorate as you wish. Sprinkles, edible glitter, more chocolate, you choose!
